Candidates may attend one or both auditions sessions. Please be available for callbacks. WOH staff will notify candidates if they are being called back.

Candidates must complete a printed audition form and return it to the production team. Download the form below to complete and print ahead of time, hard copies will also be available at the audition. Candidates will receive an audition number and are required to have their photo taken upon arrival. Please have your scheduling conflicts available. Candidates should review the audition materials and come prepared to perform as an individual and in group work.

Waterville Opera House seeks a diverse group of singers, actors and performers including, but not limited to gender identities, body types, ages, abilities, sexual orientation, ethnic and racial backgrounds. Waterville Opera House is seeking to fill all roles as stated in the character descriptions below, all ethnicities welcome. For Sherlock Holmes and Dorothy Watson, we are looking for female actors to reflect the gender-swapping of these traditionally male characters. We are actively seeking actors of Indian/ Middle Eastern descent for the role of Priya. For all other characters, we are open to actors of all gender identities.

Setting: Various locations in and around London circa 1885
Casting: 7W | 5M Accent unless otherwise noted: RP (received pronunciation), leaning toward posh.

Auditions will involve singing, book work, and dancing. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Depending on the show, there may be a specific audition time for children only. All parents will be required to wait outside of the audition space as part of the audition is demonstrating to the production team that a child can take direction without a parent present.

Performing in a show at the Waterville Opera House requires a serious time commitment. Performers should be prepared for 3-4 rehearsals per week (often 6:30pm-9pm on weekdays, and a weekend day). A detailed rehearsal schedule will be published once the cast has been finalized. Rehearsals will take place at Studio 1902 in the Paul J. Schupf Art Center (93 Main St, Waterville).

Waterville Opera House performers are required to provide their own undergarments, shoes, and basic hair and makeup products.

Each performer receives 2 complimentary tickets to the production. Performers should contact the Ed Harris Box Office to reserve their complimentary tickets.

Auditions will be announced on this page, in the Waterville Opera House email newsletter, and on our social media channels. Character descriptions and audition materials will be available on this page.

Theatre events typically require a minimum 3 hour commitment, while concerts can run as long as 4 – 5 hours. Keep time requirements in mind when choosing which events to volunteer. All volunteers should plan to stay throughout the entire performance to help clean up the theatre once patrons have left.

Volunteers are required to arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to event time. Arrival time is listed when you sign up. New volunteers should take care to arrive early so you can be trained prior to patron arrival.

Upon arrival, please meet in the Opera House lobby on the second floor of City Hall. You may keep your coat and personal items in the office adjacent to Concessions. A pre-show meeting will take place prior to all performances so volunteers can receive event-specific instructions.

In order to maintain a consistent and professional appearance, please observe our simple dress code by wearing: black and white clothing (patterns are acceptable), your Opera House name tag (provided), and a welcoming smile!

The following clothing is not allowed: T-shirts, jeans, mini-skirts, athletic apparel, brightly colored athletic shoes, and any graphics with political or controversial meaning.

Positions include ushering (directing patrons to their seats), scanning tickets, selling merchandise and concessions, among others. We ask that new volunteers sign up for Floor Usher.
